How It Works

Join us for the second annual Community Well-Being Challenge to explore the many accessible resources, events, and activities that lead to greater longevity. The 2024 Community Well-Being Challenge launches in January and runs through December 31.

Thrive Umpqua and dozens of community partners are offering free classes, hosting exciting events, offering unique exploration opportunities, and much more. Participants are invited to participate in at least six well-being activities throughout the year that correspond to the six Longevity Principles: Move More, Connect, Live on Purpose, Plant Slant, Unwind and Positive Outlook.

No manual tracking or logging of activities required! Thrive Umpqua tracks your attendance at each of the events/activities and you are entered to win gift cards and prizes each month and for the final Grand Prizes at the end of the Challenge!

Eligible activities are communicated through monthly emails, periodic text message reminders (for those who opt in), and on this webpage. Check out the Upcoming Events section below.

January Events


Origami and Teatime
Thursday, January 9th, 4:30-5:30pm
Thrive Umpqua Office: 556 SE Jackson Street, Roseburg 

Unwind and Connect during the hustle and bustle of the season
with an origami paper star activity and tea. One of the primary benefits of making origami is its ability to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Origami requires concentration and focus, which helps to calm the mind and reduce anxiety. The repetitive folding of paper can also be meditative, similar to the practice of yoga or mindfulness meditation. No registration or supplies needed, just show up! 

MLK Day River Clean Up
Monday, January 15th, 10am-2pm
Stewart Park Pavilion, Roseburg 

This upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day, UCA is hosting a Day of Service in Roseburg! For nearly 30 years, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities where we live, work, and play. This upcoming January, thousands of Americans of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds will participate in service projects to honor Dr. King’s legacy on MLK Day of Service.

Trails Day
Saturday, January 20th, 10am-12pm
Meet at the Duck Pond next to Fred Meyer, Roseburg 

Join Thrive Umpqua and UCC Athletics in coming out to improve the Thrive Umpqua adopted trail in Stewart Park (from the Duck Pond to the YMCA)! Trash grabbers, bags, gloves, and refreshments will be provided.

Family Wellness Wonderland
Sunday, January 21st, Noon-4pm
Boys and Girls Club, 1144 NE Cedar St, Roseburg 

The Family Wellness Wonderland will feature community partners offering information about topics like nutrition, home visiting programs, STEAM learning, mental health providers, and disaster preparedness. There will be plenty of games and activities.


Walk with a Doc
Third Saturday of the month at 8am
YMCA East Parking Lot (next to volleyball courts), Roseburg

A short educational discussion followed by a group walk along the Stewart Park Walking Path. This walk is led by Dr. Terri Lundy.

February Events

Community Well-Being Challenge Kick Off Event – Dr. Michael Greger at UCC!
Tuesday, February 6th: 6:30pm
UCC Jacoby Auditorium 

Dr. Greger, author of “How Not to Die,” will be at UCC Jacoby Auditorium on Feb 6, 6:30pm, presenting insights from his new book, “How Not to Age.” He shares natural ways to slow aging, discusses diets of the healthiest populations, and offers tips for preserving brain and body function. Sponsored by UC-VEG, Thrive Umpqua, UCC Nursing, and Roseburg Residency Program.

UC-VEG Cooking Class: Decadent Chocolate Desserts
Monday, February 12th: 5:30-7:00pm
Ford Room, Roseburg Public Library, Roseburg

Register early for UC-VEG’s plant-based cooking class with limited space for 50 people. The upcoming class features a theme of Decadent Chocolate Desserts with cooking demonstrators guiding participants on kitchen preparation, ingredient shopping and dish creation. Gateway Garden Work Bee
Saturday, February 17th: 10:30am-1:30pm
Gateway Community Garden, 1614 SE Stephens Ave, Roseburg

As the new season approaches, we will be gathering as a community to help clean up, weed, organize, and make repairs at the Gateway Community Garden. This garden provides a space for those without land to grow food, allowing them to connect with the earth and understand the origins of their food. Snacks, water, and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves. Join us for a rewarding volunteer opportunity! Your participation will make a positive impact! 

Painting Your Passion: Exploring Purpose Through Art Workshop
Tuesday, February 20th, 5:30-7pm
Thrive Umpqua Office, 556 SE Jackson Street, Roseburg 

Embark on a playful exploration of self-discovery and creativity! Participate in this ‘unwind’ event hosted by Thrive Umpqua, led by Art Therapist Heidi from Juniper Tree. Delve into the longevity principles, and explore purpose through paints and other materials.  Share your creations if you’d like and celebrate the unique expressions of your purpose. Heidi provides all the necessary materials for the event, and take-home tips guarantee continued exploration on your creative journey.  All materials will be provided, but there are a limited number of seats! Heart Health Fair
Friday, February 23rd, 10am-1pm
Mercy Medical Center: Conference Rooms A/B, 2700 NW Stewart Parkway, Roseburg 

Stop by our booth at Mercy Hospital’s Heart Health Fair. There will be activities and information about heart health, including therapy dogs, doctors, and more!

Land of Umpqua Geocache Series Kickoff Event
Saturday, February 3rd from 9am-2pm
Stewart Park Large Pavilion, Roseburg

Hosted by Roseburg Parks and Recreation, the Discover Roseburg 13 Land of Umpqua Geocache Series kick-off is a free, family-friendly event designed to draw people of all ages outside to experience more of the city and its businesses. You’re invited to gather at 9 a.m. where Roseburg Parks and Recreation staff will give out verbal instructions and coordinate-containing “passports” for a high-tech geocaching treasure hunt.

Downtown Wellness Break: Walking Group and Yoga
Every other Wednesday at 12:20pm, January 17th thru February 28th
Meet at Thrive Umpqua Office, 556 SE Jackson St, Roseburg

Thrive Umpqua is partnering up with Zen Den Yoga Studio to provide a Downtown Wellness Break! Meet at the Thrive Umpqua office for a 30-minute walk around downtown Roseburg from 12:20-12:50pm. The walk will end at Zen Den Yoga Studio with a free, 1 hour, yoga-sesh* from 1-2pm!
Become a regular mover or drop it when you can for whichever parts you can! All are welcome, no registration is necessary. Just show up! *Those who want to do yoga should bring their own yoga mat, blanket, or towel, and reusable water bottles are always encouraged!

Monthly Prize Drawings

All participants who have completed at least one activity or event that month will be entered into a random prize drawing! Winners will be notified by by email and text message (if they opted in to text message alerts).

Grand Prize Packages

All participants who complete at least six activities by December 31st and a short final survey will be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing featuring outdoor excursions, family friendly activity vouchers, fitness and wellness gear, gift certificates to local eateries and grocery stores, and more! The lucky winners be announced in early January 2025!
