How It Works

Join us for the first annual Community Well-Being Challenge to explore the many accessible resources, events, and activities that lead to greater longevity. The 2023 Community Well-Being Challenge launches on April 3 and runs through December 31.

Thrive Umpqua and dozens of community partners will be offering free classes, hosting exciting events, offering unique exploration opportunities, and much more. Participants are invited to participate in at least six well-being activities throughout the year that correspond to the six Longevity Principles: Move More, Connect, Live on Purpose, Plant Slant, Unwind and Positive Outlook.

No manual tracking or logging of activities required! Thrive Umpqua will track your attendance at each of the events/activities and you will be entered to win gift cards and prizes each month and for the final Grand Prizes at the end of the Challenge!

Eligible activities will be communicated through monthly emails, periodic text message reminders (for those who opt in), and on this webpage. Check out the Upcoming Events section below.

  • Saturday, April 22nd – Stop by our booth at the Community Baby Shower, learn about our upcoming nutrition classes and programs for families at Roseburg High School from 9am-3pm

Purpose
  • Friday, April 28th – Volunteer at our street beautification project from 9am-Noon as we weed and plant new shrubs/flowers to brighten up SE Stephens. Email connect@thriveumpqua.com to sign up! We will meet at the Senior Center at 1614 SE Stephens Street.

Rethinking Streets Presentation by Dr. Marc Schlossberg

Thrive Umpqua is hosting an exciting presentation by Dr. Marc Schlossberg, a renowned Professor of City & Regional Planning at the University of Oregon and author of Rethinking Streets. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the importance of biking and how it can positively impact our communities. 

Cinco De Mayo Bike and Dine Ride

Join Thrive Umpqua and Umpqua Velo Club for bike rides for a good cause! Let’s support our local restaurants while enjoying some exercise and delicious food! On May 5th we will take a neighborhood bike ride that will end at Salud Brewery to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! Bike route will be posted to our Facebook Event Page. 

Bike Fair

Friday, May 19th 2-5pm
Stewart Park Basketball Courts

Kids and families are invited to bring their bike and helmet to the Bike Fair to ride a bike skills course, and we’ll share information on safe riding, some bike handling tips along with fun games and prizes! We will also offer some bike maintenance and limited bike tune ups too. Bikes and helmets available for those who don’t have their own. The Taco Da Town food truck will be there with some delicious menu specials too.

Walk with a Doc

Saturday, May 20th at 8am
YMCA East Parking Lot (next to volleyball courts)

A short educational discussion followed by a group walk along the Stewart Park Walking Path. This walk is led by Dr. Alim Karim of Aviva Health and the Roseburg Family Medicine Residency Program.

Gardening Workshop: Grow Your Own Microgreens

In this free, hands-on gardening workshop, we’ll be teaching basic skills on how to grow sprouts, microgreens, and garden seedlings. We’ll have a recipe idea for you to sample, inspired by microgreens. We’ll have a raffle for surprise giveaways to help you get started. Come and learn this sustainable and simple strategy for growing fresh micronutrient-rich greens in your home, all year long!

Barks and Recreation by Saving Grace

Saturday, May 20th, Noon-4pm at Stewart Park

Join us for a day of fun for the whole family at the 2nd Annual Barks and Recreation. Come and enjoy kid and pet friendly vendors, live music, food carts, beer and wine garden, doggie contests, microchips and vaccines, and more! Well mannered, dog friendly dogs on leashes are welcome.

    Summer Kick Off

    Join us for a free Sip and Sample Happy Hour event at the legendary Sunnyside Theater in downtown Roseburg! Learn and sample creative, easy, fresh and healthy recipes demonstrated, and prepared by Professional Chefs. Receive take-home recipes perfect for the summer heat. For those 21 years and older, wine is available upon request. 

    Trails Day

    Friday, June 2nd, 2:30-3:30pm

    Meet at the Duck Pond Parking Lot (next to Fred Meyer), 929 NW Garden Valley Blvd, Roseburg

    In celebration of National Trails Day, we’re inviting the community to get outside, connect, and roll up your sleeves to keep the Umpqua River Trail beautiful! Volunteer with Thrive Umpqua and the UCC Athletics Department in cleaning up litter along the trail from the Duck Pond to the YMCA. We’ll meet at the Duck Pond to hand out supplies to clean the trail. Free refreshments will be provided to all volunteers at the end of the clean-up! 

    Gateway Garden Work Bee

    Saturday, June 3rd, 10am-2pm

    Meet at the Gateway Community Garden (next to Roseburg Senior Center), 1614 SE Stephens St, Roseburg

    Help our community grow more food! The Gateway Garden has been through a lot over the past few months, including being hit by a car. But it’s recovery is coming along thanks to community volunteers and our partner organizations. You’re invited to get it ready for this season’s gardeners! Meet at the Gateway Garden just adjacent to Roseburg Senior Center.

    Easy Community Bike Rides

    Tuesday evenings all summer, 6pm

    Meet at the locomotive in Stewart Park (during Half Shell nights meet at Roseburg High School), Roseburg

    A great family-friendly bike ride hosted by Umpqua Velo Club! All ages and levels are welcome to attend. Helmets are required.

    Yoga in the Park

    Every Saturday starting June 17th thru August 26th, 10am

    Stewart Park Half Shell, Roseburg

    Spend your Saturday mornings this summer decompressing with a yoga class while surrounded by nature and the sound of the Umpqua river. Yoga in the Park is co-sponsored by Roseburg Parks & Recreation, Zen Den Yoga and Thrive Umpqua!

    Cooking Class: Baby’s First Foods

    Tuesday, June 20th, 10-11am

    Douglas Education Service District, 1871 NE Stephens, Roseburg 

    Learn how to introduce solids to an infant and how to mash up easy meals from scratch! If you have a baby, bring them along and they can do recipe tasting! Participants will receive a complimentary guidebook. This program is in partnership with Take Root Parenting Hub and UC-VEG. Register here.

    Monthly Prize Drawings

    All participants who have completed at least one activity or event that month will be entered into a random prize drawing! Winners will be announced the first Monday of each month. Next announcement coming Monday, June 1st! Winners will be notified by by email and text message (if they opted in to text message alerts).

    Grand Prizes

    All participants who complete at least six activities by December 31st and a short final survey will be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing featuring outdoor excursions, family friendly activity vouchers, fitness and wellness gear, gift certificates to local eateries and grocery stores, and more! The lucky winners be announced in early January 2024!
