December Events

Origami and Teatime
Thursday, December 7th, 4-5pm
Thrive Umpqua Office: 556 SE Jackson Street, Roseburg 

Unwind and Connect during the hustle and bustle of the season
with an origami paper star activity and tea. One of the primary benefits of making origami is its ability to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Origami requires concentration and focus, which helps to calm the mind and reduce anxiety. The repetitive folding of paper can also be meditative, similar to the practice of yoga or mindfulness meditation. No registration or supplies needed, just show up! 

Healthy Family’s Christmas Vacation

Downtown Wellness Break – Walking Group and Free Yoga (Last One for 2023!)
Wednesday, December 6th
Meet at Thrive Umpqua office at 556 SE Jackson Street

Thrive Umpqua is partnering up with Zen Den Yoga to provide a Downtown Wellness Break! Meet at the Thrive Umpqua office for a 30 minute walk around downtown Roseburg from 12:20-12:50pm. The walk will end at Zen Den Yoga with a free, 1 hour, yoga session from 1-2pm! Become a regular mover or drop it when you can for whichever parts you can! All are welcome, no registration necessary. Just show up!

Holiday Lights Bike Ride
Tuesday, December 19th, 6pm
Umpqua Valley Tennis Center, 1201 NW Stewart Parkway, Roseburg 

Get your bike tuned up, and join us for a community bike ride through the Hucrest neighborhood of Roseburg! This family-friendly bike ride will follow a 5 mile route, with an option to split-off half way to shorten the ride to 3 miles. We will ride at a leisurely pace, and riders are encouraged to decorate themselves and/or their bicycles in holiday lights and costumes. Register at https://bit.ly/holidaybikeride

Walk Out on Tobacco Community Walk
Saturday, November 18th, 10am
Umpqua Community College Track

Join us in honoring the 500 lives lost due to tobacco-related illness in Douglas County as part of the Great American Smokeout Campaign in November. The goal is for the community to run/walk 500 miles collectively for each life lost due to tobacco. Save the date – more details to come!

Make a Difference Day

Calling all service minded individuals!

Volunteers are needed for about a dozen projects, most of which include landscaping and beautification work at local schools and nonprofits. The event’s primary sponsors include United Community Action Network, Thrive Umpqua, Greater Douglas United Way, Roseburg Public Schools, Sunrise Enterprises and JustServe. Volunteers may choose a project to work on during a four-hour shift from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 28. Garden Workshop: Grow Your Own Microgreens!

Blue Zones Movie Night

Wednesday, September 13th, 7:30-10pm

Parking Lot Behind Old Soul Pizza, 525 SE Main St, Roseburg 

Viewing of the Netflix Series Live to 100 Secrets of the Blue Zones. Travel around the world with author Dan Buettner to discover five unique communities where people live extraordinary long and vibrant lives. Trails Day

STEPtember Walking Mini Challenge

Join Thrive Umpqua in making this September, a STEPtember to remember by setting a goal to get in more steps each day! Our month-long STEPtember Challenge is here to help you get started with a fun walking challenge that includes a weekly newsletter highlighting the theme for the week, physical activity tips, local trails perfect for autumn walks and weekly participation prizes. At each stand-alone class, UC-VEG provides a brief introduction on the importance of shifting toward a more plant-centered diet, as suggested by the US Dietary Guidelines, World Health Organization, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and other leading experts. We’ll then dive into practical ways to make the experience convenient, fun, affordable and delicious!
UC-VEG’s cooking demonstrators will be showing you how to prepare your kitchen, shop for ingredients, and create tasty dishes!

Picnic in the Garden

 Join Thrive Umpqua for an evening Picnic in the Garden at Rustic River Farms. Bring a picnic and beverages (if you want) and relax with us in a new way on the farm. No reservations needed. Come to cut some flowers if desired (u-pick is an additional cost) and connect with new or old friends. Feel free to bring a blanket, tables are also available. Bring vases for arranging if you’d like, or just relax with the sweet views of flowers or river.

Join us for another free Sip and Sample Happy Hour event at the legendary Sunnyside Theater in downtown Roseburg from 5-6pm! Learn and sample creative, easy, fresh and healthy recipes demonstrated, and prepared by Professional Chefs. In August, Chef Andreas Pias from Umpqua Supper Club will be making a fresh and delicious quinoa tabbouleh salad, chilled tomato and avocado soup, and Ikarian sourdough bread. Receive take-home recipes perfect for the summer heat. For those 21 years and older, wine is available upon request. Non-alcoholic drinks are also available.

In celebration of National Trails Day, we’re inviting the community to get outside, connect, and roll up your sleeves to keep the Umpqua River Trail beautiful! Volunteer with Thrive Umpqua and the UCC Athletics Department in cleaning up litter along the trail from the Duck Pond to the YMCA. We’ll meet at the Duck Pond to hand out supplies to clean the trail. Free refreshments will be provided to all volunteers at the end of the clean-up!

Stewart Park Basketball Courts

Kids and families are invited to bring their bike and helmet to the Bike Fair to ride a bike skills course, and we’ll share information on safe riding, some bike handling tips along with fun games and prizes! We will also offer some bike maintenance and limited bike tune ups too. Bikes and helmets available for those who don’t have their own. The Taco Da Town food truck will be there with some delicious menu specials too.

Join us for a day of fun for the whole family at the 2nd Annual Barks and Recreation. Come and enjoy kid and pet friendly vendors, live music, food carts, beer and wine garden, doggie contests, microchips and vaccines, and more!
